Morocco - December 26, 1998

When we were in Spain MWR had trips going to everywhere near and far so shortly after we got there decided to go to Morocco. Took the bus to Algecerias, where we caught a ferry to Tangiers. We were suppose to take the hydrofoil but the water was to choppy. The ferry ended up being a two hour trip. I thought it was kind of neat and interesting that because we left the country by boat the stamp in our passport had a ship in the corner signifying the mode of transportation.

Below is Gibraltar which we would visit later in our stay in Spain.

This is the harbor in Tangiers.

This was a guy in one of the plaza showing us a snake.

Over looking the city.

One of the very narrow alleyways. Don't know why this one was empty because most were so full of people you could barely move. Then there were vendors that would chase you down trying to sell their wares.

This was the entrance to the Medina, which is really just a labyrinth of shops, was really glad we had a guide because I think I would still be wandering around today if we hadn't.

One of the mosques we walked by, it was built in the 1600's

This is where the sultans lived with their wives, harems, and entourages until 1912 and is now a museum exhibiting carpets, ceramics, embroidery, and wrought ironwork.

A residential courtyard we walked by, it was really beautiful and quite a contrast to the walkways we traveled on.

After the tour we went to a local restaurant and had kabobs and chicken with couscous, it was all very delicious.

Then we got a chance to do some shopping, looked at some really beautiful carpets. Would have liked to have added a couple to the ones that Dan got while he was stationed in Turkey but we thought we would come back while we were in Spain but never did make the trip again. To many other places to see.

All in all it was a great day and we really enjoyed our trip.
